**Murfreesboro, AR** – For the adventurous treasure hunter, Arkansas’ Crater of Diamonds State Park offers a unique opportunity: the chance to find real diamonds and keep them. This 37 ½-acre plowed field, the only diamond-bearing site in the world open to the public, allows visitors to search for diamonds and other minerals, with a simple “finders keepers” policy.
Since its opening in 1972, over 35,000 diamonds have been discovered by visitors. The park, located near Murfreesboro and situated on the eroded surface of an ancient volcanic crater, provides tools for rent ($5 each) or allows visitors to bring their own. Before embarking on the hunt, visitors are encouraged to visit the Diamond Discovery Center for tips and educational exhibits.
Entry fees are $13 for adults and $6 for children (free for children under 6). Park staff identify and register any diamonds found.
Beyond diamond hunting, Crater of Diamonds State Park offers a range of other activities. Visitors can enjoy the seasonal Diamond Springs Water Park, explore picturesque walking trails (Arboretum, Arkansas, Austell, Base, Bear Cave, Bear Creek Cycle, and more), picnic areas, campsites, and participate in activities like fishing, paddle sports, and horseback riding.
The park is part of the Arkansas State Parks system, offering a complete vacation experience blending adventure and natural beauty.
