Wed Mar 12 20:31:25 UTC 2025: ## Congress, DMK Walk Out of Lok Sabha Over Adani Renewable Energy Project Near Border
**New Delhi, March 13, 2025** – The Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha yesterday, protesting the government’s response to concerns over a renewable energy project by the Adani Group near the India-Pakistan border.
Congress leader Manish Tewari raised concerns during Question Hour about the proximity of the project to the International Border, citing security protocols that mandate a 10km distance for such large infrastructure projects. He questioned whether the government had granted exemptions, referencing a recent Guardian report alleging changes to border security regulations to facilitate the project.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi responded that all approvals were granted after clearances from central and state authorities and relevant agencies. Unsatisfied with this response, Congress members protested in the well of the house, leading to the walkout.
Separately, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the government of failing to investigate allegations of money laundering involving the Adani Group and shell companies in Mauritius, where Prime Minister Modi is currently on a state visit. Ramesh criticized the slow pace of a Supreme Court-monitored SEBI investigation and called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into what he termed the “biggest corruption scam in Indian history.” He linked these allegations to alleged election tampering in Maharashtra and other states. The Congress party’s actions highlight growing concerns over the Adani Group’s influence and the government’s handling of related investigations.
