**Bengaluru, March 13, 2025** – The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first water board in India to receive certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its piped drinking water supply management system.
The certification, awarded after a rigorous six-month evaluation, recognizes the BWSSB’s commitment to international water quality standards and efficient, safe, and sustainable water management practices. The BIS praised the city’s adherence to these standards throughout the process.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar lauded the achievement, emphasizing the city’s dedication to providing clean drinking water to its residents. BWSSB Chairman V. Ram Prasath Manohar explained that the certification encompasses all aspects of the water supply system, from source to tap. This includes intake, treatment, distribution, and quality assurance.
