Wed Mar 12 09:36:57 UTC 2025: **Tamil Nadu Minister Rejects National Education Policy, Citing State’s Success**
CHENNAI, March 12, 2025 – Tamil Nadu’s School Education Minister, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, has publicly rejected the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state, arguing that the existing Tamil Nadu education system is superior and already produces top professionals and innovators.
In a social media post addressing Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Poyyamozhi highlighted the success of the state’s education model, citing significantly higher enrollment in state board schools (1.09 crore students in 58,779 schools) compared to CBSE schools (15.2 lakh students in 1,635 schools). He countered Pradhan’s concerns regarding declining enrollment in Tamil-medium schools, suggesting that the preference for the state board system demonstrates public satisfaction.
Poyyamozhi emphasized that the state’s education system successfully incorporates Tamil and English, providing students with both cultural pride and global competitiveness. He argued that imposing the NEP, a “one-size-fits-all” model, would disrupt a system that is already functioning effectively and delivering excellent results. He further dismissed criticisms as politically motivated, stating that the opposition to NEP 2020 is not about preserving Tamil language and culture, but about political gain. The Minister concluded by asserting Tamil Nadu’s commitment to its current educational model and its refusal to compromise on what’s best for its students.
