Tue Mar 11 15:55:23 UTC 2025: **Largest Drone Attack on Moscow Kills Three, Disrupts Flights and Oil Supply**
MOSCOW, March 11, 2025 – A large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow early Tuesday resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to several others, marking the most significant assault on the Russian capital since the start of the conflict three years ago. The attack involved at least 91 drones, according to Russian defense ministry data, targeting residential buildings in several areas surrounding Moscow, including Sapronovo, Ramenskoye (near an air base), and areas near Domodedovo airport.
The Kremlin condemned the strikes, which damaged high-rise apartment blocks and disrupted oil supplies to Hungary after infrastructure of the Druzhba pipeline was hit. Moscow’s four main airports temporarily closed, causing rerouting of approximately 83 flights. The attack occurred hours before high-level US-Ukrainian talks in Saudi Arabia aimed at ending the conflict.
Ukrainian officials stated the attack was intended to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin into accepting a proposal to halt long-range aerial attacks, a proposal Moscow has previously rejected. Kyiv also reported hitting infrastructure related to the Druzhba oil pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto confirmed a temporary suspension of Russian oil supplies, but anticipated a resumption later in the day.
Moscow’s defense ministry claimed to have intercepted 343 drones, while Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the incident as the most massive drone attack on the city. Eyewitnesses described scenes of explosions, screaming children, and injured neighbors. While life in Moscow has largely continued unaffected by the ongoing war in Ukraine, the scale of this attack underscores a significant escalation of the conflict. The Ukrainian delegation will present the US with a plan to halt air and sea attacks during the talks in Saudi Arabia.
The ongoing conflict continues to claim lives on both sides. A Russian bomb attack in the Donetsk region resulted in one death and four injuries. Moscow reported retaking several villages in the Kursk region, while Kyiv said Russia launched a large-scale aerial barrage.
