TIRUNELVELI, March 12, 2025 – Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu announced the impending completion of two major drinking water projects in Tirunelveli district. The first project, costing ₹605 crore, will provide water to over 96,000 houses in 831 villages across Radhapuram and Valliyoor. This project is slated for completion by May 31st.

A second project, budgeted at ₹423.13 crore, will benefit residents of Kalakkad municipality and seven town panchayats. This is expected to be finished by October. Both projects utilize the Tamirabharani river as their water source and will collectively serve over 1.5 lakh families.

Speaker Appavu, accompanied by Collector R. Sukumar and officials, inspected ongoing work, including well construction, water treatment plant development, and the laying of extensive pipeline networks totaling approximately 7,448.02 km. He highlighted that over 74% of the work is already complete, with the addition of 162 new overhead tanks supplementing the existing 1,176. A key component of the projects involves a well near Mela Munneerpallam supplying 21.71 million liters of water daily to Valliyoor and Radhapuram. The water will undergo treatment before distribution.
