Wed Mar 12 13:10:21 UTC 2025: ## Tribal Women Build Community Hall in Tamil Nadu with Corporate Support

**Erode, Tamil Nadu – March 12, 2025** – Tribal women in the Solagar Dhoddi hamlet in Erode district are constructing a community hall to boost their livelihoods. The initiative, supported by several organizations, aims to improve the economic prospects of the approximately 35 families who primarily rely on cattle rearing and farming.

The hall, built using locally sourced materials, will serve as a processing and marketing hub for forest produce, millets, and dairy products. The project has received significant support from Arulagam, a conservation NGO, and 19 volunteers from State Street Corporation’s CSR wing. Joint Hands, a women-led Farmer Producer Company backed by NABARD, is also involved.

The project gained momentum following the village’s recent acquisition of Forest Rights Act entitlements, allowing them to collect minor forest produce. This led to the formation of the Thalavadi Tribal Women’s Association, aiming to replicate the success in other tribal villages.

The foundation stone was laid on March 8th, International Women’s Day, during an event attended by community members, volunteers, and local officials. The event highlighted the challenges faced by tribal communities and emphasized the importance of education and skill development. R. Meena, the first woman from the community to complete an M.Phil. in Physics, shared her experiences, underscoring the need for continued support in education and job training. The construction commenced the following day, with villagers and volunteers working collaboratively.
