**CHENNAI, INDIA – March 11, 2025** – The Hindu newspaper’s popular daily quiz, “Data Point,” challenged readers this week with a series of geographical questions. The quiz tested knowledge on diverse topics, ranging from oceanographic phenomena to tectonic plate movements.
Among the questions posed were: identifying the name of the large, dispersed plastic accumulation zone in the North Pacific (commonly known by a different, misleading name); naming the type of tide experienced in western North America featuring two high and two low tides of varying heights daily; identifying the largest known microcontinent north of New Zealand, known by its Maori name Te Riu-a-Māui; filling in the blanks to name the volcanic belt encircling the Pacific Ocean which experiences 90% of the world’s earthquakes; and lastly, naming the future supercontinent predicted to form in 300 million years due to tectonic plate shifts.
The quiz also included a bonus question: identifying the explorer who renamed the Mar del Sur to the Pacific Ocean before landing in Guam in 1520.
