Tue Mar 11 20:35:07 UTC 2025: ## Union Minister Accuses Tamil Nadu of Political Gamesmanship Over NEP 2020 Implementation
**New Delhi, March 12, 2025** – Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar has accused the Tamil Nadu government of hypocrisy, alleging that its refusal to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a politically motivated move ahead of upcoming state elections.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Mr. Majumdar dismissed claims of discriminatory treatment towards Tamil Nadu, stating that the state’s reluctance stems solely from the approaching elections. He emphasized the policy’s support for mother tongue instruction up to Class V, highlighting that Tamil, being the mother tongue in Tamil Nadu, presents no conflict.
The minister further criticized the Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, for attempting to create a political agenda by obstructing the NEP 2020 implementation and the three-language formula.
This dispute echoed in Parliament on Monday, where Lok Sabha proceedings were briefly adjourned following condemnation from DMK members of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks on the state’s alleged dishonesty regarding the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. Mr. Pradhan highlighted that the state’s shifting stance on the scheme, which requires a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre for NEP 2020 implementation and subsequent funding, is hindering progress.
