Wed Mar 12 09:12:04 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Receives Widespread Rainfall, Bringing Relief from Soaring Temperatures
**Chennai, March 12, 2025** – Widespread rainfall, including heavy downpours in several districts, brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai predicts scattered rainfall will continue until Thursday morning, after which dry weather is expected to return to most areas.
The RMC attributes the wet weather to a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area. While heavy rainfall is expected to be limited to a few Western Ghats districts, including Nilgiris and Coimbatore, lighter showers are forecast for other regions. P. Senthamarai Kannan, Director of the Area Cyclone Warning Centre, anticipates a return to dry conditions across the state from Thursday, with only isolated rainfall possible until March 16. A slight increase in rainfall is predicted for March 17 and 18. Temperatures are expected to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius between March 13 and 15.
Thiyagadurgam in Kallakurichi district experienced the heaviest rainfall, recording 16 cm in the 24 hours ending Wednesday morning. Approximately 30 weather stations across the state reported heavy to very heavy rainfall. The summer showers significantly lowered daytime temperatures, with maximum temperatures dipping 3-6 degrees Celsius below average in some coastal areas, ranging from 27-33 degrees Celsius.
Chennai is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall until Thursday, with temperatures around 33-34 degrees Celsius.
