Wed Mar 12 08:08:47 UTC 2025: ## Kozhikode Hospital Faces Medical Negligence Allegation After Patient’s Death

**Kozhikode, March 12, 2025** – The Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Kozhikode is facing allegations of medical negligence following the death of a 57-year-old woman, Vilasini, on Wednesday. Vilasini, a resident of Perambra, underwent a hysterectomy and oophorectomy on March 7th to address post-menopausal bleeding and endometrial hyperplasia.

According to Vilasini’s family, post-surgery complications arose when doctors discovered and repaired a large intestine injury via laparoscopy. They allege that Vilasini was prematurely allowed to eat normal food, leading to severe stomach pain and a subsequent transfer to the ICU. A second surgery was reportedly performed to address an infection, but Vilasini’s condition worsened, resulting in her death on March 12th.

Hospital doctors offered a different account, stating that an emergency open surgery was performed on March 10th due to a leak in the intestinal repair. They diagnosed faecal peritonitis and provided treatment, including ventilator support, but were unable to save Vilasini’s life.

Police have yet to initiate any investigation into the allegations of medical negligence. The family’s claims are currently under scrutiny.
