**Bengaluru, March 12, 2025** – The Karnataka Legislative Assembly passed the Karnataka Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation and Development) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 on Monday. The amendment aims to bring e-commerce platforms under government control for the collection of cess on agricultural produce.
According to APMC Minister Shivanand Patil, the bill addresses the issue of e-commerce platforms evading cess by defining “warehouse service provider” to include these platforms. This inclusion will bring all e-commerce platforms selling agricultural produce under the ambit of the APMC Act, enabling the collection of the previously evaded cess.
