**Mumbai, India –** Reliance Jio Platforms Limited, the digital services arm of the Reliance Group, announced a partnership with SpaceX on Wednesday to offer Starlink’s satellite broadband internet services in India. This follows a similar agreement announced by rival Bharti Airtel just a day earlier. The deal is contingent upon SpaceX receiving the necessary regulatory approvals to operate in India.
Jio will integrate Starlink into its existing broadband ecosystem, offering Starlink services through its retail outlets and online platforms, including installation and customer support. This collaboration aims to extend high-speed internet access to even the most remote areas of the country, complementing Jio’s existing JioAirFiber and JioFiber services.
Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, stated that the partnership represents a significant step towards providing seamless broadband connectivity across India, empowering both businesses and communities. He highlighted the combined strengths of Jio’s extensive mobile network and Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite constellation in achieving this goal.
Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX President and COO, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership and emphasized SpaceX’s eagerness to work with Jio and obtain the necessary Indian government authorizations to expand Starlink’s reach. The companies also plan to explore further areas of cooperation to enhance India’s overall digital infrastructure. The agreement marks a significant step in expanding high-speed internet access across India, particularly in underserved regions.
