KOCHI, March 12, 2025 – Construction on the Kerala State Housing Board’s ambitious Eco City project in Kochi is slated to begin in May, according to Revenue Minister K. Rajan. The first phase, encompassing 3.16 acres of a 17.90-acre plot at Marine Drive, will focus on mixed-use residential and commercial buildings. The development will include 3BHK and 4BHK units with ample parking, and a convention center.

Minister Rajan, speaking at the Housing Board’s 54th anniversary, touted the Eco City as the Board’s largest undertaking. He confirmed that most necessary permits have been secured, with remaining clearances currently in progress. The project is envisioned as a luxurious, eco-friendly development incorporating green building design and premium amenities.

The Minister also advocated for a revised Kerala housing policy, acknowledging the impact of natural disasters since 2016. He stressed the need for geographically tailored policies and urged the Housing Board to incorporate lessons learned from past calamities into future planning. Furthermore, he called for increased focus on elderly-friendly housing schemes, recognizing the growing trend of younger generations working away from their families. The Minister aims to end the commercialization of housing for the elderly through Board initiatives.
