Wed Mar 12 17:50:23 UTC 2025: **Bengaluru Court Restrains Media from Defamatory Reporting on Arrested Actress**

**Bengaluru, March 13, 2025** – A Bengaluru city civil court has issued a temporary injunction preventing several media outlets from publishing or broadcasting defamatory statements against Kannada actress Harshavardini Ranya Rao, who is currently under arrest in connection with a gold smuggling case.

The injunction, granted on Wednesday, was sought by Ms. Rao’s mother, Rohini H.P., who argued that media platforms had engaged in an unethical “media trial” by publishing misleading headlines and exaggerating narratives, thereby damaging her daughter’s reputation. The court’s order stated that the media’s actions disregarded guidelines issued by the High Courts and Supreme Court, interfering with the administration of justice.

The judge noted that without the injunction, Ms. Rao’s right to a fair trial, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, would be violated. The order specifically targets print, electronic, digital, television, and social media platforms. The case continues.
