Tue Mar 11 18:38:50 UTC 2025: ## AIMIM Aims for Statewide Expansion in West Bengal Ahead of 2024 Assembly Elections

**Kolkata, West Bengal –** The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, is aggressively expanding its presence in West Bengal ahead of the 2024 assembly elections. The party, which garnered approximately 1.5 lakh votes in the 2023 Panchayat elections from Malda and Murshidabad districts alone, has launched a statewide membership drive, including a dedicated phone number, aiming to significantly increase its base from the current three lakh members.

Despite a lackluster performance in the 2021 assembly elections, where it contested only a handful of seats, AIMIM is aiming for a much larger presence this time. Party leader Md Imran Solanki stated that they intend to field candidates in all 294 assembly seats and have already begun organizing at the block level. The party is employing a multifaceted approach, including door-to-door membership drives and community events like Iftar parties. Asaduddin Owaisi is also expected to visit West Bengal for election rallies after Eid.

Solanki cited the current political climate in the state, arguing that the ruling Trinamool Congress’s emphasis on Hindu identity and the BJP’s strategies leave a void for an alternative. He highlighted the party’s existing support base in North Bengal and Malda, aiming to capitalize on this foundation for a broader statewide appeal. With Muslims constituting 27% of West Bengal’s population (according to the 2011 census), AIMIM is hoping to leverage this demographic for electoral gains.
