Tue Mar 11 04:05:10 UTC 2025: ## West Bengal BJP MLAs Suspended, Sparking Political Row
**Kolkata, March 11, 2025** – The West Bengal Legislative Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Monday, culminating in the suspension of one BJP MLA and the eviction of two others. The disruption began after BJP MLA Hiran Chatterjee’s microphone was switched off during a budget debate where he was criticizing the West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC).
This sparked a protest from BJP legislators, who disrupted proceedings by gathering in the well of the House and tearing up papers. Despite repeated warnings from Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay, the protests continued, leading to the suspension of Dipak Barman for the remainder of the session and the removal of Shankar Ghosh and Manoj Oraon. The BJP MLAs subsequently staged a walkout.
Speaker Bandyopadhyay justified his actions, citing Rule 331 of the Rules of Conduct of Business, and stated that the MLAs had disregarded repeated warnings. He also asserted that criticizing the Speaker’s actions is unacceptable.
Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari condemned the Speaker’s decision, accusing him of stifling dissent and alleging that the marshals acted under the influence of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). He further criticized the Speaker for preventing BJP MLAs from raising concerns about law and order and the functioning of state welfare schemes.
The BJP has announced a rally in Baruipur on March 19 to protest against the alleged suppression of their MLAs’ voices. This rally will directly target Speaker Bandyopadhyay, who represents Baruipur. The TMC, however, defended the Speaker’s actions, claiming the BJP was attempting to disrupt legislative proceedings.
