**Port Louis, Mauritius –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius late Monday night for a two-day state visit, culminating in his participation as Chief Guest at the nation’s 57th National Day celebrations on March 12th. The visit, at the invitation of Mauritian Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, aims to further strengthen the already robust India-Mauritius relationship.

PM Modi emphasized the historical, geographical, and cultural ties binding the two nations, highlighting the deep mutual trust and shared democratic values. He expressed confidence that this visit will usher in a new chapter in bilateral relations, building upon decades of people-to-people connections and collaborative initiatives. The visit is also expected to bolster security and development cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region, aligning with India’s Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).

During his stay, PM Modi will meet with Mauritian President and Prime Minister, alongside senior dignitaries and political leaders. He will also interact with the Indian-origin community and inaugurate projects funded by India, including a Civil Service College and an Area Health Centre. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are anticipated to be signed, focusing on areas like maritime security and capacity building.

An Indian naval ship and contingent of defence forces will participate in the National Day celebrations, underscoring the strong defence cooperation between the two countries. The Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava, described the India-Mauritius relationship as “truly special,” anticipating significant agreements on maritime security and capacity building. PM Modi’s last visit to Mauritius was in 2015.
