Tue Mar 11 04:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Pain-Resistant Vigilante Takes Center Stage in Upcoming Action-Comedy “Novocaine”

**Los Angeles, CA –** Paramount Pictures is gearing up for the March 15th release of “Novocaine,” an action-comedy starring Jack Quaid as Nathan Caine, a bank manager with congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA). This rare disorder, affecting fewer than one in 100 million people, becomes the unlikely superpower propelling Nathan into a violent rescue mission when his crush is taken hostage during a bank robbery.

The film, directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, plays on the irony of Nathan’s condition. While his lack of pain sensation makes him vulnerable to serious injury, it also allows him to endure extreme physical trauma that would incapacitate a typical action hero. The film’s marketing emphasizes this unique selling point, showcasing Quaid’s character enduring brutal beatings and injuries, including crossbow bolts and medieval flails, all in a bid to save his colleague, Sherry (Amber Midthunder).

“Novocaine” aims for a Deadpool-esque irreverent tone, juxtaposing brutal violence with comedic elements. However, while the filmmakers aren’t shy about depicting graphic injuries, the action sequences are described as less than expertly orchestrated. The romantic subplot between Quaid and Midthunder is highlighted as a stronger element of the film than the action itself.

The supporting cast includes notable actors such as Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, and Ray Nicholson (son of Jack Nicholson), adding intrigue to the production. The film’s unique premise, combined with the “nepo baby” dynamic between Quaid and Nicholson, presents a compelling, if somewhat unconventional, narrative. Early reactions suggest that Quaid’s performance and the unexpected comedic elements might make the film a surprisingly entertaining ride, despite its occasionally clumsy action sequences. Sneak previews begin March 8th.
