This significant religious event symbolizes the victory of good over evil, commemorating the legendary triumph of Prahlad over the demoness Holika.
According to Drik Panchang, the auspicious time for the Holika Dahan ceremony is between 11:26 PM on March 13 and 12:30 AM on March 14. Families and communities will gather to light bonfires, performing Holika Puja and offering prayers. Traditional offerings include holy water, flowers, and other sacred items. The burning of the bonfire represents the destruction of negativity and the ushering in of prosperity and good fortune.
The festival is rooted in the story of Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, and his aunt Holika, who attempted to kill him at the behest of his demonic father. Divine intervention saved Prahlad, while Holika perished in the flames, thus solidifying the symbolic meaning of the Holika Dahan ritual.
