**Hyderabad, March 10, 2025** – The Telangana State Government announced a significant relief package for handloom weavers on Sunday, including loan waivers and substantial financial aid. Textile Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao revealed a series of initiatives aimed at revitalizing the state’s handloom sector.

A key measure is the waiver of loans up to ₹1 lakh for individual weavers, implemented through government order GO Rt no: 56. The government allocated ₹33 crore for this initiative. Minister Rao emphasized the government’s commitment to reviving the sector, which he stated had been neglected by previous administrations. To support weavers, government departments are now mandated to source textiles from the Telangana State Handloom Cooperative Society (TGSCO).

Further bolstering the sector, the government established the Konda Laxman Bapuji Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), offering a three-year diploma to 60 students annually. Addressing concerns of powerloom workers, a new yarn depot was set up in Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla district, funded with a ₹50 crore corpus. Under the “Telangana Cheneta Abhayahasta Scheme,” ₹168 crore has been sanctioned for implementation by January 10, 2025.

The Minister also announced that ₹290.09 crore has been disbursed under the Netannaku Cheyutha scheme, benefiting 36,133 handloom workers. Additionally, ₹494.48 crore has been released to TGSCO to clear outstanding payments to handloom cooperative societies and other weaver organizations. These measures represent a significant investment by the Telangana government in the revitalization and modernization of its handloom industry.
