**Puducherry, March 10, 2025** – Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan announced significant economic gains for Puducherry in his address to the Assembly today, highlighting a substantial increase in per capita income and a decrease in unemployment.
The per capita income rose by 5.33% in 2024-25, reaching ₹3,02,680, representing an increase of ₹15,000 per person. This growth builds on an impressive five-year average annual growth rate of 9.56% for the territory’s economy. The Lt. Governor attributed this success to various government initiatives, including the creation of 2,444 government jobs and the establishment of 236 MSMEs, generating over 10,000 new employment opportunities. Skill development programs and job fairs further contributed to a reduction in unemployment, from 6.7% in 2020-21 to 4.3% in 2024-25.
The UT’s own revenue receipts also saw a marked increase, rising from ₹8,418 crore in 2020-21 to ₹11,311.92 crore in 2023-24, a growth of 34.36%. This increase was credited to innovative government measures.
Furthermore, Puducherry achieved a high ranking in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index 2023-24, securing second place among all Union Territories with a composite score of 74. The Lt. Governor outlined plans for continued economic growth, focusing on the service sector and initiatives in agriculture, fisheries, and industrial development, including the creation of new industrial hubs.
