Mon Mar 10 07:46:42 UTC 2025: ## Lok Sabha Adjourned Amidst Protest Over PM SHRI Scheme
**New Delhi, March 10, 2025** – The Lok Sabha was adjourned for 30 minutes today following protests by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) members. The protests erupted in response to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s criticism of the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.
Mr. Pradhan accused the DMK-led state government of dishonesty and of jeopardizing the future of Tamil Nadu students by reversing its initial agreement to implement the centrally-sponsored scheme. He highlighted that the scheme requires a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government, committing to the National Education Policy 2020, and that Tamil Nadu had withdrawn its initial support despite other non-BJP states like Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh agreeing to participate.
The Minister’s strong words, calling the Tamil Nadu government “dishonest” and accusing them of playing politics, prompted the DMK members to stage a protest, raising slogans against the central government. Despite Speaker Om Birla’s appeals for order, the protests continued, leading to the adjournment of the House until 12 noon. The incident highlights growing tensions between the central and Tamil Nadu state governments over the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme.
