**KOCHI, March 10, 2025** – Two researchers from Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) have secured significant funding for a deep-sea research project. Dr. Parvathi A., Professor, and Dr. Sayuj K.P., Assistant Professor, both from the Department of Biotechnology, have been awarded ₹1.65 crore by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
The grant will support their project, “Understanding the metabolic architecture of microbial communities using deep ocean metagenome.” The research aims to investigate the genetic and functional diversity of microbial communities found in deep-sea and seabed environments using advanced methodologies. Dr. Sayuj serves as the co-principal investigator for this project, which falls under the MoES’s Deep Ocean Mission program.
