**Bengaluru, March 10, 2025** – The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is preparing a budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year that is expected to reach ₹20,000 crore, a significant increase from last year’s revised budget of ₹13,116 crore. This substantial rise is attributed to increased grants from the State and Central governments, coupled with improved revenue collection. The BBMP has already collected ₹4,541 crore in property tax, exceeding 87% of its target by March 1st.
The State Budget allocated ₹7,000 crore to the BBMP, a substantial increase from the previous ₹3,000 crore. A significant portion of this funding will be directed towards projects managed by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), details of which will be included in the upcoming budget. Further funding is expected from a World Bank loan for the storm-water drain project.
However, even with the increased funding, the BBMP faces a significant funding gap. The estimated cost of key projects, including two tunnel road projects (₹40,000 crore), an elevated corridor (₹15,000 crore), a double-decker project (BBMP share: ₹15,000 crore), the Sanchara Yuktha project (₹3,000 crore), a sky deck (₹1,000 crore), and white-topping (₹6,000 crore), totals ₹1 lakh crore. The State government will guarantee ₹19,000 crore for the tunnel road projects, leaving a shortfall to be covered through global bank loans.
The BBMP has yet to announce the date for the budget presentation.
