**Guwahati, Assam – March 10, 2025** – The Assam government unveiled a ₹2.63 lakh crore budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year today, featuring a deficit of ₹620.27 crore. Finance Minister Ajanta Neog presented the budget in the state assembly, which includes significant tax relief measures ahead of next year’s state elections.
A key highlight is the proposed exemption of professional tax for individuals earning up to ₹15,000 per month. This measure is expected to benefit over 1.43 lakh taxpayers and families, boosting consumer spending, according to Ms. Neog. The budget also extends the tax holiday for green tea leaves by two years to support the struggling tea industry. This was Ms. Neog’s final full budget presentation before the upcoming elections.
