**Washington, D.C.** – A man was shot by a U.S. Secret Service officer near the White House early Sunday morning following an armed confrontation. The incident occurred approximately a block from the White House, on the west side of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, around midnight.

According to a Secret Service statement, agents had been alerted by local police to a potentially suicidal individual traveling to Washington, D.C. from Indiana. Upon locating the suspect’s vehicle and identifying a matching individual, an armed confrontation ensued when the suspect reportedly brandished a firearm. Secret Service personnel fired shots, injuring the suspect.

The individual was hospitalized, and their condition remains unknown. No Secret Service personnel were injured during the incident.

The Metropolitan Police Department will lead the investigation into the shooting, as they are the primary agency responsible for use-of-force incidents within the District of Columbia.
