Sun Mar 09 08:28:13 UTC 2025: ## One Body Found in Telangana Tunnel Collapse; Robots to Assist Rescue

**Hyderabad, Telangana, March 9, 2025** – Rescue efforts intensified on Sunday in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapse in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana, where eight people have been trapped since February 22nd. A breakthrough occurred Saturday night with the discovery of one body under the debris.

Teams of rat miners from Uttarakhand and miners from Singareni Collieries are focusing on several locations pinpointed by cadaver dogs. One site, where a body has been located, requires four feet of digging. The operation is considered highly risky due to unstable conditions.

Further assisting the search, technicians from the South Central Railway (SCR) have removed damaged sections of the tunnel boring machine (TBM), opening up access for rescue crews. A third mini-excavator has been deployed to expedite the process. However, other locations indicated by the sniffer dogs have yielded non-human materials.

The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) has identified eight additional potential locations using ground-penetrating radar (GPR), though previous scans at four sites yielded negative results. The final 50-70 meters of the tunnel remains extremely challenging, filled with 3-9 meters of mud and debris. Dewatering efforts are underway to make the area accessible.

Robots are scheduled to be deployed on March 11th to aid in the search for the remaining missing persons. The rescue operation is expected to continue for several more days.
