Sat Mar 08 15:59:53 UTC 2025: ## State Human Rights Commission Orders Action on Kozhikode Drug Pushers

**Kozhikode, Kerala – March 8, 2025** – The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Kozhikode City District Police Chief and the Deputy Excise Commissioner to immediately address the issue of drug peddling near a de-addiction center located near Kozhikode Beach. The commission demanded a report detailing the actions taken within one week.

Numerous complaints have highlighted the presence of drug pushers near the center, located close to the Kozhikode Government General Hospital. These individuals are reportedly interacting with patients undergoing treatment, undermining the center’s efforts.

K.S. Viswanathan, a recent hospital visitor, stated that the situation has led to frequent clashes and fights on the hospital premises, prompting a request for the center’s relocation. Hospital sources confirmed that a relocation request, citing the need for improved security, has been submitted to the District Collector.

While police have announced increased surveillance, including 24/7 plainclothes officers and on-the-spot arrests, the Excise department’s response involves bolstering security at the current location, pending government approval for a potential move.
