NEW DELHI, March 8, 2025 – In an effort to combat the rise in zoonotic diseases, the Union Animal Husbandry Ministry conducted a one-day online training program for approximately one lakh women livestock farmers on Friday, March 7th, in the lead-up to International Women’s Day.
The virtual training, facilitated through the Common Service Centres (CSC) network, reached participants across 21 states and union territories via roughly 2,050 camps organized by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs). The program covered zoonotic disease awareness, clean milk production techniques, and the preventative role of ethno-veterinary medicine.
Union Secretary for Animal Husbandry, Alka Upadhyaya, emphasized the crucial role women play in Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS), highlighting their contributions to increased credit access and expanded customer bases. She encouraged farmers to utilize government schemes such as those supporting goat and sheep rearing. Ms. Upadhyaya stressed the importance of zoonotic disease prevention to minimize animal-to-human transmission and productivity losses.
Additional Secretary Varsha Joshi underscored the need for hygienic and sustainable practices within the livestock sector, emphasizing bio-security measures to prevent disease transmission.
