**Madurai, March 9, 2025** – A speeding van collided with a stationary truck on the Virudhunagar-Madurai highway near Tirumangalam on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and ten injuries. The accident occurred at around 6 a.m. at Melakottai junction.
The deceased, identified as 60-year-old S. Selvaraj of Krishnapuram near Ambasamudram, was among a group traveling to Keezhasevalpatti for a death-related ritual. Police reported that the van driver failed to notice the firewood-laden truck parked on the roadside, causing a rear-end collision. Selvaraj died at the scene. The ten injured passengers were transported to a local hospital.
Tirumangalam Taluk police are investigating the accident.
