**Bogota, Colombia – March 9, 2025** – Heavy rains triggered a devastating landslide in southwest Colombia on Friday, March 8th, resulting in at least one fatality and three people still missing, officials confirmed Saturday.
The victim was swept away in their vehicle by the landslide, according to Nicolás Toro, mayor of Pasto. Initially, four people were reported missing, but the body of one victim was recovered on Saturday. Thirty-eight others were rescued from the affected area, which saw over 200 people impacted and 65 homes damaged.
Heavy machinery is currently being used to clear roads and restore water service, which was disrupted in a popular tourist area near La Cocha lagoon. The National Risk Management Unit is overseeing recovery efforts.
