**Hyderabad, [Date]** – The Telangana government’s ambitious Indira Kranti Patham (Indiramma Ilulu) housing scheme has commenced its second phase of beneficiary selection. The scheme, inspired by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s Garibi Hatao initiative, aims to provide housing to the state’s poorest citizens.
The first phase saw 72,045 individuals selected and provided with funds to begin constructing homes on their existing plots. These beneficiaries, categorized as L1 (those with land), are expected to complete their basements by March 10th, after which they will receive the first installment of the promised ₹5 lakh.
However, over 21.93 lakh individuals applied for the scheme through the Indirammma Ilulu app. To ensure the most needy receive assistance, the government is now conducting thorough verifications for the second phase. Teams are visiting applicants’ homes to cross-check details and verify eligibility criteria.
This second phase aims to prioritize the poorest of the poor, unlike the first, which prioritized speed of selection. Applicants are categorized into three levels (L1, L2, L3) based on land and housing ownership. Currently, verification focuses on L1 applicants, with complaints arising about miscategorization of some applicants. Authorities are addressing these complaints.
The government emphasizes that securing housing under the scheme is crucial to its success and to fulfilling Indira Gandhi’s vision of eradicating poverty. Eligible individuals with land are urged to actively participate in the verification process to receive the promised financial assistance.
