**Hyderabad, March 9, 2025** – The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and Coal India Limited (CIL) announced a major collaboration today with the establishment of the Centre of Clean Energy & Net Zero (CLEANZ). Funded by a ₹98 crore grant from CIL, the center will focus on research and development of sustainable energy solutions.

The agreement, signed in the presence of Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, will see collaborative research in areas including enhanced coal bed methane recovery, carbon capture technologies, coal liquefaction, AI & ML applications in the energy sector, and circular economy initiatives.

The CLEANZ, to be located on the IITH campus, will also collaborate closely with the National Centre of Coal and Energy Research in Ranchi. The center will offer training and R&D facilities, and create joint opportunities for students and professionals from both organizations.

IITH Director B.S. Murty highlighted the significance of this partnership in India’s energy transition, stating the collaboration will help pioneer solutions for clean energy and carbon neutrality. The initiative underscores India’s commitment to net-zero emissions and strengthens the collaboration between academia and industry in the clean energy sector.
