Sat Mar 08 22:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Upset Alert! Florida Gators Stun Alabama in SEC Tournament Thriller

**GREENVILLE, S.C.** – In a stunning upset, the Florida Gators (16-16) defeated the 19th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (23-8) 63-61 in the second round of the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament Thursday night. Freshman Liv McGill led the charge for the Gators, scoring a career-high 29 points, including 11 crucial points in the fourth quarter.

The Gators’ stifling defense held Alabama to a dismal 34% shooting from the field. McGill’s performance, which included 10-of-17 shooting from the field and three three-pointers, proved to be the difference. Ra Shaya Kyle contributed 12 points and six rebounds for Florida.

Alabama, led by All-SEC first-teamer Sarah Ashlee Barker’s 24 points and eight rebounds, mounted a late comeback, closing the gap to one point in the final seconds. However, Laila Reynolds’ free throw and a game-sealing block preserved the victory for Florida.

This win marks Florida’s first victory over a ranked opponent since 2022 and propels them into the SEC Tournament quarterfinals against No. 3 seed LSU on Friday. The Crimson Tide, now 0-8 this season when trailing after three quarters, saw their tournament run come to an end.
