Sun Mar 09 05:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Avalanche Rout Sharks in 7-3 Victory, Makar Sets Franchise Record

**DENVER, CO –** The Colorado Avalanche dominated the San Jose Sharks Thursday night, securing a 7-3 victory fueled by a record-breaking performance from defenseman Cale Makar. Makar tallied two goals and four assists, marking the first six-point game by a defenseman in Avalanche franchise history. His performance overshadowed a strong showing from Nathan MacKinnon, who contributed two goals and three assists, extending his home points streak to an impressive 18 games.

MacKinnon is now just three points shy of joining Joe Sakic and Peter Stastny as the only Avalanche players to reach 1,000 career points. Jonathan Drouin, Joel Kiviranta, and Martin Necas also added goals for Colorado, who improved to 4-0 on their current homestand and extended their winning streak against the Sharks to 12 games. The Avalanche’s offensive outburst came despite the Sharks’ starting goaltender being former Avalanche Alexandar Georgiev.

Adding to the excitement, the Avalanche made a mid-game trade, acquiring forward Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders. The Sharks, meanwhile, concluded a seven-game road trip with a 2-3-2 record, having traded forward Nico Sturm to Florida earlier in the day. Both teams also faced their former goaltenders, following a December trade that sent Mackenzie Blackwood to Colorado and Georgiev to San Jose. Blackwood stopped 31 shots for Colorado, while Georgiev made 25 saves for the Sharks.

Fabian Zetterlund, Macklin Celebrini, and William Eklund scored for San Jose. The game also saw Avalanche forward Jimmy Vesey make his debut after a recent trade from the New York Rangers and linesman Kilian McNamara leave the ice after being struck by a puck.

Both teams return to action on Saturday; Colorado hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs while San Jose faces the New York Islanders at home.
