Sun Mar 09 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Gujarat Giants Eye Playoffs Berth Against Delhi Capitals

**Lucknow, March 6 (IANS):** Riding a two-match winning streak, the Gujarat Giants aim to maintain their momentum when they face the Delhi Capitals on Friday in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Their recent victories – a six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore and an 81-run thrashing of UP Warriorz – have propelled them from the bottom of the table to second place.

With six points from six matches, Gujarat has a golden opportunity to further solidify their playoff hopes against the already-qualified Delhi Capitals. Delhi, currently topping the table with 10 points, seeks to improve their net run rate and secure a direct entry into the final with a victory.

Gujarat’s turnaround has been dramatic. Captain Ashleigh Gardner’s unbeaten 58 and Phoebe Litchfield’s unbeaten 30 steered them to a thrilling win against RCB. Their subsequent dominant performance, fueled by Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 96 and a collective bowling effort, saw them dismantle UP Warriorz. This victory not only improved their position but also boosted their net run rate from -0.450 to 0.357, surpassing Mumbai Indians (0.166) who are tied with them on six points. With Mumbai having three games remaining, Gujarat is keen to maintain a strong net run rate to avoid dependence on other match results.

Gujarat’s pace bowlers have exploited the new ball and conditions effectively. However, they must be wary of Delhi’s all-round strength, who are also eager for a win to secure top spot and direct final qualification.

Delhi Capitals, with 10 points from seven matches, are in pole position for a direct final entry. The teams finishing second and third will clash in the Eliminator next week. Despite fluctuating performances, Delhi, led by Meg Lanning, remains a formidable opponent, particularly with Shafali Verma’s explosive batting (260 runs).
