**Koppal, Karnataka –** A horrific gang rape of an Israeli tourist and a local homestay owner has sent shockwaves through Koppal, Karnataka. The incident occurred late Thursday night near the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal as the victims, along with three other travelers, were stargazing.
Three men, arriving on a motorcycle, initially asked for petrol and then demanded money. Upon being refused, they violently assaulted the group, pushing three men – an American, an Indian from Maharashtra, and one from Odisha – into the canal. While two of the men escaped, the Odia man remains missing.
The perpetrators then allegedly gang-raped the 27-year-old Israeli tourist and the 29-year-old homestay owner. Police Superintendent Ram L Arasiddi confirmed that the women filed a complaint detailing the assault and rape. Both women are currently receiving medical treatment at a government hospital and have the option of transferring to a private facility.
A case has been registered under charges of rape and robbery. Koppal police have launched a full-scale investigation, deploying two special teams to identify and apprehend the accused. Superintendent Arasiddi assured the public that the suspects will be arrested swiftly. The police have confirmed the rape through medical examinations of the victims. The investigation is ongoing.
