Fri Mar 07 10:20:00 UTC 2025: **Blood Moon to Grace Night Skies Next Week**
NEW YORK, NY – Get ready for a celestial spectacle! A total lunar eclipse, also known as a Blood Moon, will be visible across North and South America on the night of March 13-14, 2025. This will be the first total lunar eclipse since November 2022 and the first of three planned for 2025 and 2026.
During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth passes directly between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow that gives the moon its reddish hue. This is caused by the scattering of sunlight in Earth’s atmosphere.
Totality, when the moon is completely in Earth’s shadow, will last approximately 65 minutes. Optimal viewing will be in the Americas, with parts of Western Europe possibly catching a glimpse before moonset. No special equipment is needed to view the eclipse safely, although binoculars or a telescope will enhance the experience. For the best view, find a location away from city lights with a clear sky.
