KANSAS CITY, MO – Over a year after three friends were found dead outside a Kansas City home following a Chiefs game, Platte County prosecutors announced charges against two men in connection with their deaths. Clayton McGeeney, 36, Ricky Johnson, 38, and David Harrington, 37, were discovered deceased on January 9, 2024, two days after attending a Chiefs game.

Jordan Willis and Ivory J. Carson have each been charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter and one count of delivery of a controlled substance. Prosecutors say the men died from combined fentanyl and cocaine toxicity. The charges stem from the alleged reckless provision of the drugs that led to the men’s deaths. Each charge carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.

According to Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd, a search of Willis’ home yielded bags containing cocaine and fentanyl. Forensic evidence linked Willis to the cocaine and Carson to the fentanyl. While Willis’ attorney maintains his client was unaware of the men’s condition and didn’t procure the drugs, Zahnd cited witness testimonies and text message data supporting the charges. These accounts detail a night of drug use at Willis’ home involving the victims and the two accused.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves emphasized the accountability for those supplying fentanyl in the community. The lengthy investigation, explained Zahnd, required thorough forensic analysis and investigative work before charges could be filed. Carson is currently in custody, while Willis is expected to surrender. The case has drawn significant media attention, particularly given the time elapsed since the discovery of the bodies.
