**Beijing, March 7, 2025** – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declared on Friday that India-China relations have made significant progress following the resolution of the prolonged military standoff in eastern Ladakh. Speaking at his annual press conference on the sidelines of the Two Sessions, China’s annual parliamentary meeting, Wang attributed the improvement to the October 2024 meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia.
Wang stated that both leaders provided strategic guidance for improved ties, leading to increased communication and cooperation at all levels. This followed the completion of the troop disengagement process in late 2024, resolving the final friction points in Depsang and Demchok. Subsequent high-level talks between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Wang Yi, as well as Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his Chinese counterpart, further cemented the improved relationship.
While acknowledging border disputes, Wang emphasized that these differences should not overshadow the overall bilateral relationship. He reiterated China’s position that both nations possess the wisdom to maintain peace and tranquility in border areas while working towards a fair resolution to the boundary issue. He advocated for a cooperative partnership between India and China, stating that mutual support is crucial and that both countries should work together rather than against each other.
Wang also highlighted the importance of India and China collaborating as leading members of the Global South to counter hegemonism and power politics. He emphasized the potential for greater democracy in international affairs if the two nations joined forces. Finally, Wang noted the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and expressed China’s commitment to fostering a stable and developing relationship with India.
