Fri Mar 07 08:43:39 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Increases Food Allowance for Police on Special Duty
**Bengaluru, March 7, 2025** – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a hike in food allowance for police personnel on special duty, increasing it from ₹200 to ₹300. The move, following a proposal from the State Home Department, aims to address concerns about the quality and cost of food provided to officers during events like elections and festivals.
The decision comes after several incidents highlighting issues with food supplied to police. In February, an FIR was filed against a caterer at the Aero India show in Yelahanka for providing substandard food containing insects. This followed previous complaints of similar issues. Senior officers even shared meals with personnel to ensure quality control and boost morale.
Beyond the quality of food, the reimbursement process has also been problematic. The current system requires GST bills with TIN numbers, which are often difficult to obtain, leading to delays and rejections of claims. This has forced many officers to pay for food out of their own pockets and has created opportunities for corruption, according to sources. The increased allowance is hoped to mitigate some of these challenges.
