**BIRMINGHAM, AL** – The Florida Atlantic Owls will have another shot at the UAB Blazers, the AAC preseason favorites, in a pivotal conference clash on Thursday at 7 pm CT in Bartow Arena. This rematch follows a closely fought January encounter which saw the Blazers edge out the Owls by five points.
FAU held a two-point lead late in the second half of the first meeting, only to see UAB close the game on an 8-1 run. Containing UAB star forward Yaxel Lendeborg, who posted 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists in that game, will be key for the Owls. Lendeborg has been a dominant force all season, averaging 17.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game. However, he had a relatively off night in UAB’s recent loss to No. 16 Memphis.
The Owls enter the game on the heels of a much-needed 69-63 victory over USF, snapping a three-game losing streak. Forward Baba Miller led FAU’s charge with 17 points and 3 blocks.
Currently tied with East Carolina for fifth place in the AAC standings, FAU holds a tiebreaker advantage due to a previous win over the Pirates. However, these two teams will face off again on Sunday, making Thursday’s game even more crucial for the Owls’ postseason hopes. The matchup promises a thrilling contest as FAU aims for revenge and a crucial win in their road finale.
