**Imphal, Manipur –** Congress MP A. Bimol Akoijam met with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Thursday to express concerns about the state of Manipur Police and the ongoing ethnic conflict. Akoijam stressed the need to restore the police force’s legitimacy and capacity, highlighting its crucial role in maintaining law and order. He emphasized that central armed forces should only be supplementary to the state police.
The meeting, also publicized by Raj Bhawan on X, saw Akoijam advocate for the Governor to appoint local advisors to better understand and address public sentiment. He urged a judicious approach to disarming both hill and valley regions, along with budgetary provisions to address the two-year-long crisis’s financial impact.
While welcoming the government’s efforts to ensure highway mobility, Akoijam raised concerns about missing person Laishram Kamalbabu and requested action to address his family’s concerns. He also pressed for concrete steps to tackle the illegal drug trade, including poppy cultivation and synthetic drug trafficking.
Akoijam’s wife, Olivia Thounaojam, also participated, appealing to the Governor to address the specific needs of women and children in relief camps. The meeting underscores the ongoing concerns surrounding the Manipur crisis and the need for comprehensive measures to address its various facets.
