Fri Mar 07 07:50:59 UTC 2025: ## China Vows to Counter US Tariffs, Rejects Fentanyl Blame

**Beijing, China** – Amid escalating trade tensions, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has issued a strong rebuke to the United States, vowing to firmly counter pressure following the imposition of new tariffs by the Trump administration. Speaking at a press conference Friday, Wang accused Washington of employing a “law of the jungle” approach and engaging in “meeting good with evil” by initiating a trade war.

The US recently imposed a flat 20 percent tariff on all Chinese imports, prompting retaliatory measures from China, including a 15 percent duty on US agricultural products. Wang emphasized the mutually beneficial nature of US-China economic ties, stating that cooperation leads to win-win results, while pressure will be met with firm countermeasures.

He forcefully rejected President Trump’s justification for the tariffs, which cited China’s alleged failure to adequately address the US fentanyl crisis. Wang countered that the US must solve its own fentanyl problem and accused Washington of repaying Beijing’s cooperation with resentment. He stressed that no country can expect to suppress China while simultaneously pursuing positive relations.

Despite the rising tensions, Wang acknowledged areas of shared interest and cooperation. However, the situation could worsen, with reports suggesting the Trump administration is considering further punitive measures. A draft executive order, obtained by Reuters, reportedly proposes new fees on ships with Chinese-built or -flagged vessels docking at US ports and tariffs on Chinese cargo-handling equipment. These actions aim to bolster the US shipbuilding industry and curb China’s dominance in global shipping. Neither the US administration nor Chinese officials have yet commented on the report.
