**Bengaluru, India** – Ranya Rao, a Kannada actress and stepdaughter of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation Director-General Ramachandra Rao, was arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda airport on Monday for allegedly smuggling nearly 15 kg of gold worth approximately Rs 12 crore. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended Rao, 33, after discovering the gold concealed in her clothing and in briefcases carried by two aides. Authorities also reportedly found gold jewelry worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash during a subsequent search of her home.

Rao, who reportedly made 27 trips to Dubai in the past year, was caught just before exiting the airport after clearing security. Her arrest has caused significant distress to her stepfather, who issued a statement distancing himself and his family from Rao. He stated that Rao married Jatin Hukkeri in 2024 and has had no contact with her family since, resulting in a complete separation.

In his statement, the senior police officer expressed his shock and devastation at the news, emphasizing his commitment to public service and his family’s struggle to process the situation. He maintained that if Rao is found to have violated the law, she will be subject to due legal process. The officer appealed for fairness and consideration for both himself and his family during this difficult time. The investigation into the gold smuggling operation is ongoing.
