**AHILYANAGAR, MAHARASHTRA –** Police in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district have arrested the family members of a 14-year-old girl who was forced into marriage with a 25-year-old man in January. The girl, who reported the incident to authorities in March, stated that her grandparents arranged the marriage in Shevgaon. She refused to live with her husband in Devlai and sought help from the police with the assistance of the state’s social justice department’s child welfare committee.
The girl’s relatives have been charged under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, while her 25-year-old husband faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). The case has been transferred to the Shevgaon police station, where the marriage took place.
