Wed Mar 05 23:00:00 UTC 2025: ## India Braces for Diverse Weather Extremes: Heatwave in Mumbai, Cold Snap in North
**New Delhi, March 2024** – India is experiencing a diverse range of weather conditions as March unfolds. While some regions shiver under strong winds and plummeting temperatures, others are sweltering under record-breaking heat. Meanwhile, the mountains are bracing for another round of snowfall.
According to Skymet Weather, strong northwesterly winds will continue across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and north Maharashtra, gradually easing in intensity. Light to moderate rainfall is predicted for eastern Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, with isolated light showers expected in Lakshadweep and Kerala. Rajasthan and Gujarat can anticipate a further drop in maximum temperatures.
These strong surface winds have already caused a drop in maximum temperatures in some areas. Delhi, for instance, saw its maximum temperature dip to 25°C, although a slight increase is expected today. Despite this, the strong winds and chilly air create a noticeably colder feel. Delhi’s forecast for today includes strong winds, with a minimum temperature of 13°C and a maximum of 29°C.
In contrast, Mumbai is battling intense heat. Skymet predicts the arrival of a western disturbance on March 8th, disrupting the flow of anticyclonic winds reaching the Konkan and north-central Maharashtra regions. This disruption could lead to a sharp increase in daytime temperatures, exceeding 37°C between March 8th and 11th, potentially creating heatwave-like conditions in Mumbai and its suburbs.
The mountains are expected to see another period of snowfall between March 9th and 12th, due to the activation of another western disturbance. While this fresh snowfall brings relief to farmers, it also raises concerns about landslides and disruptions to daily life. The combination of previous heavy snowfall and this upcoming event will maintain cold conditions in the mountainous regions.
