LOS ANGELES – The critically acclaimed limited series *The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live*, featuring the return of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira as Michonne, has sparked speculation about a potential second season. While Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple confirmed the show’s initial intention as a limited run, he hinted at the possibility of future appearances for the beloved characters in an interview with The Direct.
“The plan was to keep it limited. Not necessarily never to see those characters again, but to keep it limited. But I always say, you never know,” Gimple stated, leaving the door ajar for a season 2 or appearances in other *Walking Dead* spin-offs.
The six-episode series, which premiered in February 2024 to a record-breaking 3 million viewers, garnered an 88% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and strong audience reception. The show’s conclusion left Rick and Michonne reunited with their children, a happy ending that doesn’t preclude future appearances.
Several avenues exist for a Rick and Michonne return. They could feature in *The Walking Dead: Dead City* season 3, or potentially *More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe*, an anthology series currently in development. While a direct season 2 seems unlikely, Gimple’s comments suggest that the iconic duo’s story within the *Walking Dead* universe may not yet be over.
