**Milwaukee, Wisconsin –** A 26-year-old Indian student, G Praveen, has been found dead in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with apparent gunshot wounds, his family confirmed Wednesday. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, though conflicting reports suggest he may have been shot at a store.
Praveen, a native of Ranga Reddy district in Telangana, India, was pursuing a Master’s degree in Milwaukee. His family received the devastating news from US authorities Wednesday morning (Indian time). While some friends reported he was found with bullet wounds, the official cause of death is pending an autopsy.
Praveen’s cousin, Arun, stated that Praveen attempted to contact his father early Wednesday morning, but the call went unanswered. The family is in shock and has reached out to local elected officials for assistance in navigating this tragedy.
Praveen had traveled to the US in 2023 to pursue his MS after completing his B.Tech in Hyderabad. He returned to India briefly in December 2024 before returning to the US in January. This is the third reported death of a Telangana student in the US by gunfire in less than a year. Two other students from the state were reportedly shot and killed in the US in November 2024 and January 2025. The US authorities are investigating.
